Wonderries

I started the “mobile comics” project immediately when I arrived to Brighton by hitchhiking from Spain in autumn 2004. Meanwhile, my friends had made nice money from mobile sector and even I was trying to enter to this market being back in Estonia in 2003-2004 I wasn’t much able to execute my business plans there.
Nick Underhill from Wired Sussex tried to raise me little bit capital without any luck. The mobile market wasn’t yet reached Brighton.
After graduating my film producer courses held by Raindance and taking several NPA courses, I developed the characters and presented my mobile animation film project to Screen South for funding. However, they didn’t want somehow to fund this project. Meanwhile I just did software testing tasks for Dataline for £7 p.h. to support myself living in most expensive places in Britain. As their programmers are damn good; I didn’t had much work there.
By August 2006 the project in Dataline ended and I decided to move forward to Belfast by hitchhiking again.
Living in Belfast Youth Hostel, I met a guys from Newcastle who where interested to invest few thousand pounds to this project. So they sent me a brand new Dell Notebook and started to animate my stories using SVG technology.
Even struggling with technical problems, I was able to finish my animations by December 2006.
Afterwards we tried to get those to the market using distributor. Mobile Media was only interested short 3GP video clips, MobStarMedia was some Brighton based small company still thinking to earn money from mobile phone screensavers and PlayerX had already earned enough money from Mr. Bean animations. Also InMobia wasn’t much interested.
So my investors cut down the financing in January 2007 when I was in business development process with Bango. They though, nobody would understood my stories.
From June to August 2007 I have tried to negotiate additional capital for the project from Invest NI and support from Dave&Mark again unsuccessfully.
When visiting SVG developers conference in Paris, 2010 the awful truth becomes to me. My clips are still working only with Opera browser and Ikivo drivers after five years. Webkit (provider of Nokia and Apple browsers), Firefox and Microsoft haven’t got my SVG clips work yet.
The way, this project could have been succesful would have been to partner with Ikivo with their SVG drivers, launch it as an app to iStore and would charge a subscription fee. However, Mark and David had lost their interest and I wasn’t able to continue this project without financing.
