Kirk Kimberly ugly porn site – a British way to do business

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Brits really are something. Recently a guy calling himself Kirk Kimberly joined to youngentrepreneur.com forum. First he introduced himself as a successful entrepreneur who are interested to buy more businesses. Then he asked if someone can do his website to look more professional, because it really was an ugly childish work belonging to the early era of GeoCities.

Meanwhile a young guy Nick Boswell contacted me with a question that can I program him iPhone or websites. Sure, but for iPhone I still need a MacBook and iPhone while for a web, I can do XHTML, HTML, XML, XSLT, Perl and php using computers in public library. So, he had purchased (or stole) one professional template from Stamatis Kritikos and wanted his name to be as a designer to offer web and logo design services for his customers. So besides visible copyright line in that template, I changed also author Metatag to Nick’s name as well.

So I spent some time with this template, made an contact form that will email contacts using Perl script and was trying to integrate the search box there with my Undiscovered Internet Websites directory as there is meaningless to have a site search in few pages websites. First try to use Google search ended up that Google demands at least 800 pixels width for their search box so it was too width for our template as it could be to most templates. Why Google can’t be more flexible?

However, even I wrote the solution that my directory will send out RSS feeds of sites from a query, it has been a hassle to get URL parameters to JavaScript src field so I’m not sure is it worth to do it even.

Additionally he wanted to have Twitter/Facebook integration and to select newsfeeds to his site so I found a easy to use solution from feed.informer.com where you can select multiple feeds to one feed to put to your website.

Anyway, he didn’t much gave me content to his product offers web pages and wasn’t much in a hurry to sort his hosting out, so he asked me to do some websites to others using a same template. As his offer of $15 per site was too low to some of offered projects, I agreed to do Kirk Kimberly site for $50. This guy really needs a more professional site with contact form if he expects to get any customers from Internet and some visibility in Google which I could offer for him by building low cost quality backlinks. His business was to sell custom wooden decks.

So I made his site to mentioned template trying to keep XHTML Strict code Stamatis was proud of in his comments in my work, did some site SEO work as well and expected to get paid.

But Kirk Kimberly wasn’t happy at all. He accused us that we have only changed some background in his site which he could have done easily himself!!! Sure, we are not copywriters to write about his business so we used the material he had given to us. So, I told that if he wants a copywriter to write his business brochure it will cost extra and also some artwork, if he want’s a better graphical header with his logo he had admired from some other site.

Then he had an idea that he must have some Youtube videos on his site and does those public ones he had selected really represent the way how he works?

I would have recommended to do some video about his work progress, rather than stealing public ones but anyway, as this template supported only four menu tabs and I didn’t had any text to describe those videos… I didn’t much hurry to code those to that template.

Meanwhile Kirk didn’t probably didn’t wanted to pay at all so he posted a thread to public forum asking which of his site is now better, his old one or the new one and probably asked his friends to comment that the site he once had made was much better at until some real professionals questioned that “does he expects web designers work for 30 cents per hour” or “maybe you will first correct your spelling mistakes”; and as I was so choked about his tactics I just redirected this published link to “most ugliest porn site” that was becoming up when I search it in Google to end this meaningless discussion.

If a Brit doesn’t want to pay then he should just tell so and not start to pay his stupid games. That’s how Kirk Kimberly got himself a “most stupid porn site” and somehow Nick doesn’t answer anymore to my e-mails either.

Remains me a situation I had my last birthday. After I had my daily early lunch from a church a guy comes to me asking “do I want to do some work for him” and promising 10 euros per day, free food and shelter. As free food and shelter wasn’t much in my interest but 10 euros per was, I agreed. His business was to collect carton from trash bins to sell it afterwards, so I was very busy to collect something 390 kilos of it and messed totally my new jeans. Guy was standing behind me shouting “rapido, rapido” and I didn’t had any tobacco brakes at all.

Then somewhere midnight, he puts me to sleep in some old van even I would have preferred to do it in fresh air. Next morning I’m asking some money to buy tobacco but guy doesn’t want to pay me at all. “You collected so little carton that I won’t pay you”. So, I had to find 1.45 for metro myself to get from the mountains where he lived back to the city again.

So, nowadays you need to pay to do work for some people.
