Personally, I find that the latest models have advanced flash enabled browsers. I use a mobile (Nokia E62) and i can view full HTML (not xHTML) in full glory and it works properly. the only problem I face is embedded videos. That is all. GIFs load perfectly, flash loads perfectly. My suggestion? Upgrade the firmware, if there are no differences in the model that uses the firmware and the one you use. Another option is download a 3rd party browser such as Opera Mini. This really works - I have tried it on 9300i which had the same proble you mentioned. But yes I agree with you in that lower featred handsets wll continue to face the problem.
